Secret Service Finds 14 Card Skimmers in Houston
A joint operation led by the U.S. Secret Service uncovered 14 illegal card skimming devices hidden at ATMs, gas pumps, and payment terminals throughout Harris County. The operation may have prevented more than $14 million in fraud losses. During his appearance on Fox 26 Houston, technology expert Juan Guevara explained how criminals use skimmers to capture debit and credit card information, clone payment cards, and steal funds from unsuspecting victims. He also highlighted the advantages of contactless payment technologies such as Tap-to-Pay, which use secure transaction tokens that help protect consumers from card cloning and identity theft.
